With all of the news and conversations about caring for our planet people are really starting to think about the impact that they are having on the environment.
At Supercrew Projects we are also concerned about the environment and have included a number of eco friendly practices into our standard renovation specifications. Here are a few ideas of ways to increase the efficiency of your home and make it more eco friendly, a number of which will be included with your renovation.
- Using low VOC paint
- Switching to compact fluorescent bulbs or LED lighting
- Using eco friendly flooring such as natural wool carpet, cork, bamboo, reclaimed wood or linoleum
- Replacing old appliances with new more energy efficient ones. By industry estimates a front load laundry pair will use ½ as much water and up to 68% less electricity than older top load models.
- Installing low flow plumbing fixtures
- Using low flow irrigation equipment in the yard
- Installing a high efficiency furnace and hot water tank. This may also qualify for additional government rebates.
- Replacing your old windows with new efficient windows.
Having a home energy audit done will also present a number of ways to increase the efficiency of your home. It can reveal areas of the home where you could be losing heat through a drafty window or door and ways to improve your energy consumption as a family. The best part is if you have an energy audit done and follow up by performing renovations that result in improved efficiency you may qualify for government rebates.
